Another Rip Site

Journal Entry: Fri Feb 16, 2007, 12:18 PM

Journal

Update!

I just got this from the owner of winart.info:
"I decided to close Winart, you do not have to worry any more. If it will be again reopen, that will be only when I request the permission from all the authors or that is a site under another concept."

At least he was cooperative!! :D

Another site, this one stealing everything from deviantART (look at the filenames) ranging from brushes to wallpapers and visual styles and winamp skins.  I posted a notice in the Rip forum here but I thought I'd get a journal out about it too.  The site is winart.info the whois info is here:
www.whois.net/whois_new.cgi?d=… gives what I hope is an address that will give me a response.

So far I've found my winter wallpapers on the site as well as my brushes thanks to poisonedwaters.   The site is in french, it can be translated to be navigated with google translate as it was sent to me as such.   In a way they "credit" by including the original file names but my brushes for example were included in a pack with four other artist's brushes and no permission was given by me allowing them to post :|.

Still no action from uploading.com which had hosted my brushes on the Russian site.

 Seems like an endless battle lately!

Brush Rules

1. Credit if you use either on dA or off. This includes print sources that are other than personal use (ie something for your eyes only).

2. Do not redistribute (share) to other websites, e-mail groups, torrents etc. Link my page, that way the rules are kept intact and there is no ripping happening.

3. My artwork is not stock and is not to be used without permission.

4. No commercial use of brushes. If the project is making money in any way, the brushes cannot be used. (see FAQ or note me with questions).

5. Please don't comment on the front page saying you've used my brushes. Note me instead.  I'm ignoring front page stock usage comments because keeping track of them is a headache.

Yet more brush theft

Journal Entry: Mon Feb 12, 2007, 2:43 PM

Journal

Edit: I've now reported the theft to the site so we'll see if anything is done about it.  I highly doubt it given the other content on the site but it was worth a shot.  Thanks for everyone's help in getting it translated.  A word of warning, be careful if you click the link below, I've heard of some porn popups and such annoying those that did :O.

I was notified that www.fb-news.com/2006/02/28/Val… ripped my Valentine brushes and has them available for mass download.

Problem 1: the site is in russian so I can't tell where to complain to heh

Problem 2: There is a mass of warez links provided on the site so will they care?

Anyhow if anyone can make any more sense of it that I did about where to submit a complaint it would be appreciated.  There is a feedback form in their "disclaimer" but I'm not sure exactly where to go from there.  I'll have a closer look when I get home (I'm at college at the moment and need to rush to class in about 10 minutes).

I didn't check to see if there were more ripped brushes on there so you might be on a look out for your work fellow brush artists, or the works of others.

Now that I have the wonders of broadband I plan to upload the converted GIMP brushes to my gallery.  I'm not sure if I'll multipack them to save bombarding watchers or not but to those I've been promising GIMP brushes they should be coming up soon (real life schedule allowing).  I don't know if or when it will happen but I also hope to have backups of my brushes on my blogsite eventually.

I'm also working on yet another journal CSS layout.  I think I'm addicted to customizing things.  Seriously I have a huge folder on my computer filled with Visual Styles and icons so that my desktop changes daily.  So why not let that extend to my journal :D.  You know eventually a stargate version will pop up.  In any case I want to try out some of the tricks I've found in various news articles around here :)

I also hope to be posting more brushes and art.  I've had a bit of a dry spell but I've been lurking around viewing some beautiful art around the site that has given me a bit of a boost.  Anyhow just letting you all know that even though my posting has slowed down I'm still very much attached to this site :).

I still have yet to find my brushes on adobe exchange, they mysteriously disappeared after I posted my journal.  Hopefully they were taken down. by lXlDumbasslXl

Brushes Ripped

Journal Entry: Thu Jan 11, 2007, 10:00 AM

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I just wanted to let my watchers know that if they run across my brushes on Adobe Exchange that I have not placed them there; they have been posted without my permission.

I got an e-mail from someone today asking to use my brushes on a project, that they had downloaded them from Adobe Exchangewww.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange… whoever posted them wasn't smart enough to remove my signature stamp from the file with my e-mail info (all the more reason to include it brush makers! heh).

So if you happen to run into them on that site an e-mail with a link would be appreciated so I can report it (or if you report it all the better).  I'm not calling for a massive manhunt since apparently I'm still being credited but just if anyone happens to download/have downloaded in the past one of my brushes on there. I'm not sure how that particular site handles things however.  As long as I'm being credited I'm not too upset about it in any case :P.

Also be aware of torrent sites distributing brushes and resources.  I found some of mine in a pack on torrentspy the other day.  Fortunately there are few people looking for brushes on a torrent site so the seeding was next to 0.

Just another one of those things that makes you sigh and wonder about people .  I *hope* to be updating my old brush sets with a static README and stamp soon as some of the old sets contain old info.  Just thought I'd get this mini rant/info out there for all of you resource artists.

PS: This current journal CSS is a WIP so a few things have yet to be smoothed out :D.
PPS: I'm slowly getting back in the swing of replying to comments.  I've been in a rut lately and haven't felt very artistic :P.

More CSS fun :P

A more elegant CSS, and a nice wintery theme (sorry Kita, the SG one will have to wait hehe).  Hopefully the white isn't too blinding, if it is I'll add a box like the one I have around the brush rules.

I hope to finally be able to post some stuff over Thanksgiving weekend.  I've made some Windows OS snowflake icons that I'm thinking of posting and I have some brush ideas that I want to attempt to make.  We'll see how the reading/homework for class stacks up!

Speaking of brushes, I've used the set below for this journal layout (the background behind the tree).  Check out these amazing vector brushes and 1lovesdevine's other beautiful sets.

:thumb41667386:

PS, I've deleted the other journal, and replicated it due to some comments left on another user's page because of a link I sent to someone else.  I wanted to clear it completely instead of just hiding it.  Sorry to my watchers.

Just a trial CSS journal, simplistic for now until I have more time and patience to work with it.  I tried to match my livejournal and personal website's color schemes to keep things cohesive even though it's not quite seasonal!

...and into the light!

Well I've finally rid myself of AOL and 56k!  I'm still basking in the download speeds of broadband.  Hopefully this will get me off my arse and making some more brushes and art to post now that upload speeds won't be painful :D

Retiring PS7

Speaking of brushes, I've decided to retire using PS7 as my brush making program.  However, I will be posting image packs for those with versions less than CS.  My PS7 has been acting buggy in any case, and I've been holding off using CS for a while now.   Again, no worries about compatibility because of image packs.  I still anticipate many complaints about this change! :giggle:

I just have to say a HUGE thank you to kuschelirmel for suggesting "I see Music" as a DD and Aeires for actually selecting it!

I logged on and figured it was a dA5 glitch when it said I had 432 messages :D.  Thanks in advance for the favs, I'll get through the comments as quickly as I can .

And those wanting a wallpaper I'll see what I can do.  I did render a gold version in 1280x1024 so I can't promise bigger than that but when I get a chance I might post it.

Apologies for the "Squee!!", I had a moment. :giggle:

Edit on 9/15/06

I just have to say a mass thanks for all the favs and new watchers.  I haven't been able to get through them all to say individual thanks since there were about 40% more of those than comments.  It's much appreciated in any case!

Classes,Contests,Cancellation

Thu Aug 24, 2006, 12:58 AM

Fall Semester
Classes have started again which means my ambitions to keep on top of messages/notes/requests/ postings are being pushed back again :D.  Especially with taking Italian this semester for a language requirement (will I EVER graduate?!).

Thus I have turned off comments on the brush sets/gradients etc. Most of them are older now and I LOVE getting comments but I'd rather refrain from it for now on past sets that have had their run of praise/critiques.  Art and newer brush submissions will allow for comments.

Contest
Also, :iconphreakyevil: has asked that I let people know about a contest she is hosting in part with some other stock artists.  The theme is revamping through art the sugar and spice rhyme (sugar and spice and everything nice...).   Sounds like a fun contest :).

Stargate SG-1 Cancelled by Sci-Fi

Yes, it's true according to official statements by SciFi and Gateworld.net.  The show was cancelled after it's landmark 200th episode while Atlantis was renewed.  However the writers are encouraging the fans to keep watching and keep the ratings up because MGM still wants the series to continue:

"As far as the future I can't comment yet because nothing has been confirmed," Cooper said. "What we want to emphasize is that the franchise is not dying. SG-1 will go on in some way. We're just not ready to announce how."

A formal announcement from the studio and the network is expected later this week.

Cooper also emphasizes that, though emotions are running high among Stargate fans who have just learned the news, it is important to keep the show's ratings strong throughout the remainder of its run on SCI FI. "What's most important is that fans don't take out their frustration with SCI FI by not watching," he said. "In fact, what they need to do is watch both SG-1 and Atlantis LIVE and make sure the ratings stay strong.

"That helps prove to other outlets that might be interested in SG-1 that the show is still as strong as we think it is."

*source Gateworld

Edit
A more proactive position to take by sending letters to Conan O'Brian and Pierre Bernard (as Pierre has guest starred on the show and there has been a long running inside joke about a spoof they created) www.alteranancients.com/portal…

Now normally I wouldn't even post a petition like this as it usually is an exercise in futitily. However, Stargate (like Daniel) seems to have a remarkble rate for coming back to life (as proven with it's move from Showtime to SciFi and Savedanieljackson.com).

Petition to Save Sg-1

PS: Signing the petition IS free, just exit the site if you don't wish to donate.

Get Brushes

Sat Aug 12, 2006, 10:08 PM
Journal Graphic

Today I found a great new brush site after being asked to contribute with some of my own sets.  It's called getbrushes.com and it focuses on displaying individual brush artists and their brush sets.  Archived by both author and by category (abstract, grunge, etc) it makes it easy to find great brushes.  Check it out, it looks like a great endeavor, I was impressed by the simple functionality of the site and uncluttered, easy access download pages.

In other news: WTF, [comment hidden]?  :D I'm taking advantage of the comment hiding system to divert some of those comments that leave links on my page from stock use and/or those that seem to think they should pimp their notebook paper sonic fanart on my page .  Just testing it out.

. in idea phase- geometric fractal brushes
. dark color Photoshop gradients (for Syanisha)
. while I'm at it dark color Apophysis gradients
. in final processing/rendering several Apophysis fractal pieces
. catching up with comments/notes/watches (if you just get a fav,it's just because I'm very behind).

Gimp Brushes

Thu Jun 29, 2006, 11:14 PM
Journal Graphic

Brush Conversion

Thanks to the efforts of fence-post  I'll be slowly (emphasis on the slowly) uploading some of my brushes in Gimp compatible versions.  A big pat on the back to Art for going to all the trouble of getting more and more Gimp resources out there.  These aren't going to be new brushes so I'm not going to max upload them to save my poor watchers.  I'm also going to be slightly modifying the preview image to make it very plain that these are for Gimp (because some people just don't pay attention to the categories heh).  Plus I still have to download them on 56k from Art onto my own comp :D.

Now I know a lot of you are going "what? Gimp?", so here's an explanation :D.  The Gimp is an open source graphics (free) program that from what I've heard is comparable to Photoshop.  This Wiki article has more info on the features and comparisons: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gimp .  I haven't used it myself, so that's about as much help a I can give you :innocent:.  I will be including a link on how to install the brushes into the artist's descriptions.

New Brushes?

I've had some people ask when new brushes are coming.  I don't know.  There that's my official answer. :giggle:
Just like everything else I kind of have to be in the mood and have an inspiring idea to work with to make brushes.  That's even more important if I want to make good brushes.  Otherwise I just end up getting frustrated and submitting a set that might not be up to par.

Anticlimactic

You're probably wondering where all of these acclaimed vacation photos are aren't you? :P  Well I seem to have caught a stomach flu so I haven't felt like doing much in the way of resizing and saving them for the web so they'll still a coming just not as soon as I anticipated :D.

I'm also a bit behind on comments and notes so bear with me yet again :P.  I've read them but I have yet to let my brain connect to my fingers to respond.

Back

Well I'm back.  Actually I was back Tuesday night but I've been recovering from the long drive for a couple of nights by being absolutely lazy.

I have a ton of pics so I'm weeding through the good ones to decide what to post :D.

Brush Files

All the brush files are fixed now (or should be).  If you happen to notice any more errors let me know so I can get on it.

FINALLY progress

Where's my fanfare?

Well I figured while I was typing out epically long essays for Medieval Lit that I could at least have some uploads going in the background.  So the past 4 nights I've been frantically fixing the brush files :D.  I haven't located a couple of files and I've decided to replace some files with new sets after going over them but most are up and running now.  I'll shorten the long list to what isn't working now, because obviously everything else is in my gallery :D.  As soon as they are all fixed I'll try and update the master brush list too.

Still not updated:

Barbed Wire Brushes: www.deviantart.com/deviation/6…
Avatar Brushes: www.deviantart.com/deviation/9…
Vintage Music Brushes: www.deviantart.com/deviation/1…
Stroked Swirls Brushes: www.deviantart.com/deviation/1…
Rusty Grunge Brushes: www.deviantart.com/deviation/1…
Maple Leaves Brushes: www.deviantart.com/deviation/1…

Whew! That list is much shorter now!  I'm pretty sure I have all those files, I stopped at about August of 2004 going through disks so I won't declare them buried on another CD and unrecoverable until I go through the 2004 disks again :D.

Upcoming

I have some fractals and photographs to post now that the brush dillema is almost solved.  However I'm still in the midst of finals until after May 11th (hey papers take a while to write!) so if I do end up posting new stuff I'll be slow on comments.   I warn of this over and over because it never fails I get an "URGENT" comment from someone who gets offended if I don't jump on it.

...and I know I had something else to post but my wrist is killing me and I'm a bit punchy so I'll leave it at that for now...
